WORK RELATED STRESS

Stress at work has become one of the biggest causes of absenteeism. Sometimes it is because of harassment, bullying or sometimes the sheer pressure of work. Many employees try to put on a brave face and 'get on with the job' but eventually they become worn out. They may become upset and tearful in front of other employees or perhaps become angry and abusive. This is not only personally embarrassing for them it is also embarrassing for the people who are present at the time. The employee at that stage has become unfit for work and has to leave the premises, then whilst recovering at home re lives the traumas and the memories that caused this situation to arise.

Another problem may begin, they may become afraid to return to work because 'it' might happen again, so they become more stressed. Medication is usually given by their doctor, this may cause side effects, another stressful situation is developing.

Occasionally employees are victimised into leaving a company. This brings another form of stress, they have lost their job, have no money, have a mortgage to pay. This in turn can cause marital problems within the home, another form of stress. They may lose self confidence - then they are unable to get a job - more stress.

Fortunately, using various methods of therapy, all of this can be prevented.

The Multi National Companies I work with respect their staff they care about their health and safety.

When an employee has a problem within one of the companies I am involved with - they go and tell someone in Human Resources. They are not required to discuss the problem. Then H/R contact the company doctor, the company doctor refers to me. The employee is given an appointment and comes to see me.

The employee has to be given reassurance regarding confidentiality, and once this has been established therapy can begin.
